Cysts on Groin

Patients suffering from Hidradenitis suppurativa often have cysts on groin. This condition is caused when the thin protective layer of the skin cells move deeper into the skin. Rather than slough off, they simply multiply. The walls of the cyst are formed by the epidermal cell after which, protein keratin is secreted into the interior. Keratin is that thick, yellow substance that drains from the cyst. These sebaceous cysts arise as a result of abnormal cell growth caused by damaged oil glands or hair follicles in the skin.

When they appear?

Cysts on groin are usually asymptomatic and may appear periodically. Other times, they can become infected and cause an extremely painful abscess that can disrupt daily life and of course sex. These acute attacks, may appear once, or be episodic, in the worst case, become chronic. The causes of inflammation are unknown but the size of the cyst varies throughout the hormonal cycle, so it is commonly appears three or four days before menstruation in women.

How to manage them?

The incision of Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) cyst to drain the pus and secretions is a widespread intervention that has no major risks. This is done when the pains are severe, persistent, or when there is abscess. After the incision, a catheter is introduced to help evacuate the remaining liquid and promote healing in the area. The probe is changed every 24 hours and the number of days to be used is determined by the degree of infection before surgery.

Some medicinal measures do not help in the treatment of cysts on groin caused by HS. The main thing is to avoid smoking. Excessive consumption of foods high in sugar and milk also seem to be harmful to people with the disease. In patients with overweight, weight loss is essential. Daily hygiene of the affected site is necessary and antibacterial soaps may be used.

The need for treatment and the type of treatment also depends on the type of cyst, its location and symptoms. If the cyst does not cause symptoms, you probably do not need treatment. In case of a large or inflamed cyst on groin, your doctor may recommend draining. Skin cysts often show a capsule around them, which needs to be removed to prevent the formation of another cyst.

The prognosis for most cysts on the groin is good. Many cysts have no symptoms and disappear on their own. Cysts may return to form. Draining or removing the cysts with surgery has no complications or side effects. On rare occasions when the cyst is cancerous, the prognosis depends on the type of cancer and whether it has spread.

More about HS

If a person is beyond their puberty, is obese and lives an unhealthy lifestyle; he or she becomes more prone to symptoms of this skin disease. While it is advised to live a healthy lifestyle to improve the condition, it is also important to note that HS is caused by a blockage in the apocrine glands.

It is not caused by poor hygiene or directly by habits such as smoking. However, it is a condition where the secretions of the skin, oil and other substances are pushed deeper into the skin, thereby affecting the skin tissue. Infection occurs when bacteria entrapped in sweat is attached below the skin surface. This develops symptoms of HS.

The most common symptoms

It begins with a lump of boil-like eruption which is obviously inflamed. This tumor can cause itching and burning, which gives pain and discomfort to the patient. For some cases, the tumor may disappear gradually over a period of 10-30 days, but in most cases, the tumor remains and becomes a suppurativa abscess.
